Project Management Case Study: Connecting Cheshire

The work Connecting Cheshire are doing, bringing additional fibre broadband to homes and businesses, is vital for the local economy.  It allows people to work where they want and brings entertainment and knowledge to people and families at home.” Former Chancellor George Osborne MP

The Skills & Growth Company* has provided project management services to the Connecting Cheshire Partnership of Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East, Warrington and Halton Councils.

This award-winning partnership and is one of the best performing Broadband Delivery UK projects in the UK, and was established to deliver faster broadband to areas where it had not been commercially viable to invest previously. Using a combination of council, government and European funding, the first three phases of our roll-out will see almost £20m invested to reach an additional 100,000 premises with fibre.

We established the project management protocols for the project, taking into account the compliance requirements of the funders and the partners across the public sector.

This included an award winning communications and engagement strategy, project planning, scheduling, procurement, budget and cashflow management, resource planning, risk management, and reporting mechanisms back to client and funders.

*Please note this case study was published before The Skills & Growth Company was brought back into the Council’s Economic Development Service.
