Inward Investment Case Study: Waters Corporation
“The team at Skills & Growth* have worked closely with us every step of the way – from the initial development of our Wilmslow site through to supporting our growth plans for the next decade – their help has been invaluable in achieving so much in such a short time” Brian Smith, VP MS Instrument Technology, Waters
Waters Corporation is a global leader in manufacturing mass spectrometers. They operate in more than 100 countries with 11 manufacturing facilities and approximately 6,500 employees globally. Their purpose built facility in Wilmslow opened in September 2014 and is a world-class centre for innovation in mass spectrometry and the largest site globally committed to the support and development of mass spectrometry systems. Waters previously operated across four sites located throughout South Manchester so the consolidated site in Wilmslow enables more collaborative ways of working.
A comprehensive package of support was provided to facilitate the development of the 37-acre site including liaising with the Council’s Highways and Planning teams to improve traffic management, site accessibility and travel planning for staff, and providing advice on how best to harness the impact of the Apprenticeship Levy on the business and invest in their own bespoke apprenticeship programme for the first time.
Future activity could involve supporting Waters to develop a long-term vision for the site to accommodate additional facilities and employment opportunities.
